the bridge access + inclusion

Are you trans-inclusive?

Yes. If you’re a woman, you’re welcome here.

I’d feel most comfortable visiting and exploring the gym when it’s not so busy. What times tend to be quieter and less crowded?

Early weekday mornings and mid-afternoons tend to be the quietest times.

Is there step free access to the gym?

Yes. We have a lift that provides access to all floors. For more information on access, visit our 'access' page.

Do you have wheelchair accessible changing rooms and showers?

Yes, we have a wheelchair accessible, single-use changing room and shower on the fifth floor. Lockers are also available in this changing room.

Do you have accessible equipment?

We have a wide range of equipment in our gym that makes it an accessible space for all women to workout comfortably and push themselves. This includes a recumbent bike, cable machines, free weights, our rig which allows for attachments and a squat rack for upper body work.

Can you give me some information about your risk assessments for people with access needs?

If you’re a frequent member and you have access needs, we can work with you to create a Personal Emergency Evacuation Plan (PEEP), so that you’re safe and comfortable in the unlikely case of an emergency. Staff will be aware of your PEEP and will work with you to implement if necessary.

Is the staff team at The Bridge gender-affirming?

Yes. Our training includes discussion of gender-inclusive language and correct pronoun usage.

If someone questions why I’m using the facilities, based on my gender and/or gender presentation, will The Bridge staff support my right to be there?

You have a right to use any of our facilities, and staff will have your back if someone complains or asks questions about your presence.

Are there gender-neutral restrooms? If so, where are they?

There's gender neutral toilets on the Ground Floor, 1st Floor, 2nd Floor and Third Floor.

Are there gender-neutral changing/shower areas? If so, where are they?

There's a single-use changing room on the 5th Floor with its own shower. (Note: this room is also wheelchair accessible.)

Are there any dress codes at this gym?

Please wear comfortable sports/fitness clothing and trainers. We ask all members to wear shoes in the gym and studio. Open-toed shoes or slip-on shoes without a heel strap are not permitted in the gym or studio.

Can I take off my headscarf in the gym?

This is completely your choice – we want your workout to be as comfortable as possible! We have hooks in the gym where you’re welcome to hang your head scarves, or any other items of clothing, during your workout to have them nearby.

Are men allowed in the gym and studio?

Men aren’t allowed in the gym (floor four), changing rooms (floor five) or our women-only toilets (floor four).

If a man needs to enter this space, for example to carry out works, we’ll let our members know in advance – or, if advanced notice isn’t possible, we’ll put up notices and speak to everyone using the facilities and give plenty of time for people to adjust their workout beforehand.

Please note than men may be present on the stairwell, in the lift and around the fifth floor corridors when we’re open. Men are not allowed in our fitness classes in the studio, but please be aware that we hire out the studio privately and that men may be in and around the studio during these times.

Are the personal trainers at The Bridge a thoughtful bunch with regards to my personal body choices?

If you choose to work on a training plan with one of our team, your trainer will ask you to fill in a health questionnaire so that the training plan you both work together on will be safe and appropriate for you. We like to look at fitness as your main objective so there'll be no naughty step onto the scales unless you choose too, and your gender identity is your business and not ours so enjoy being your wonderful unique self.
