daytime SWAP

We're pleased to announce that we're ready to run our very first daytime SWAP. After running five successful evening SWAP projects to date, we thought it was time to do even more! Our next SWAP programme begins in a couple of weeks, with an information day on the 11 April at 13:30 – 14:30 to set us off (the information day is really important, as there is opportunity to meet the course trainers and this is where most SWAP participants get selected). The programme then runs for a further 12-weeks, from 18 April - 4 July 2018.

SWAP (Southwark Weight and Activity Programme) is a 12-week weight management, physical activity and healthy lifestyle choices programmme for inactive women with a BMI of 26 to 48. It  consists of physical activity classes, cook and eat sessions and peer-led presentations. The project was created in response to the rise of Type 2 Diabetes and cardiovascular diseases in Southwark, as well as nationally.

During the 12 weeks, participants have free access to our women only gym for 3 months and the opportunity to try a range of physical activity classes, such as Zumba, Pilates and boxing. After the programme we run monthly follow-up sessions for 24 months  to provide continued support, if you want it. We wanted to remove as many barriers as we can to facilitate more women being to be able to attend the programme so it is almost fully funded, with the total cost of £10 of the 12-weeks, which pays for the supporting manual.

We've already run five successful SWAP projects and are ready to get the next group together – come along and see if it's right for you.

This is not a diet, it's a lifestyle change!
